Evaluation Question 7; Looking Back At Your Premiminary Task, What Do You Feel You Have Learnt In The Progression From It To The Full Product?

As you can see my confidence and artistic skills have improved since my school magazine.

Evaluation Question 6; What Have You Learnt About Technologies From The Process of Constructing This Product?

If there is one think Ive learnt from taking Media AS and creating this magazine is that I'm terrible with computers! However i feel Ive gained a lot more knowledge and technique throughout the process and development of this course.
Before i began producing this magazine i had never attempted to use such opportunities as Photoshop and Indesign. Now i think i could be given a task and be able to produce a product within a set time. Ive become a lot more confident and artist. Also i have become used to the norm of convergence between internet links too.

Evaluation Question 5; How Did You Attract/ Address Your Audience?

I think it is the layout and appearance of the magazine that brings a certain type of audience to buy the magazine in the first place. You can target a particular age range however the hope for your magazine is to appeal to all the general public in some way.

The colours i used of the green's reds and blacks connoted the nature and purity of the magazine content and the style of music. Folk represents a talent of acoustic work without having the new technologies recording and playing with your original music.

I attracted my audience by portraying and advertising a fresh new artist on the front cover, with a catchy sub heading under her name to entice the reader. I also used a funky, young mast head font to fill the magazine and dominate the page showing how proud the company are to be 'Adapt' and how the reader should buy it.
I also used many connotations of glamour magazines to appeal to the female readers and factual content to appeal to the men.

Evaluation Question 4; Who Would Be The Audience For Your Media Product?

To answer Question 4; i chose to interview various age ranges to grasp their own opinion on the magazine and therefore produce an overall conclusuion of who liked the magazine the most accordring to their age.

My determined original target age range i wanted was to be 17-25 rather than targeting the older generation as most folk magazines seem to do.

The Questions i asked to gather information were;

1. Do you like my magazine?
2. Does the artist on the front cover appeal to you?
3. What would you critisize about my magazine?
4. Would you say £2 is a suitable price?
5. Would you buy this magazine and reccomend it to friends?
6. What age range would you say the magazine is targeted at?
7. What is Your Age?

Evaluation Question 3; What Kind Of Media Institution Might Distribute Your media Product And Why?

Evaluation Question 2; How Does Your Media Product Represent Particlar Social Groups?

This is the glamour magazine front cover i took inspiration from to creat my folk magazine more younger and trrendy. i thought if i included relevant issues used it could seem appealing to a more advance audience on a shop shelf and the vibrant colours catch your eye. I took the price circle to add a splash of the colour green on my front cover. Also the look is interesting and challenging with the tilt of the head yet i wanted to keep my magazine slightly more simplistic like the music and 'froots'.

When researching into who the target audience was for the magazine 'froots' it showed that the older generation preffereed folk music. 40+. This i did not want to do for my magazine as my target audience would be  16-30years. Many many would be more into reading folk magazines therefore i wanted to appeal to the female sex too. i would do this by including aspects of young womens magazines by applying a certain layout to my front cover and the look of which the model is projecting to the reader. A challenging, competitive look supporting female dominance and power.

Instead of a gossip content within the magazine i wanted to make it more factual including '100 questions with mumford and sons' and 'Easter starter songs on guitar'.

Evaluation Question 1; In What Ways Does Your Media Product Use, Develop Or Challenge Forms And conventions Of Real Media Products?

I decided for my title to use a spider diagram to create many words spiraling from each creating lots of words i could choose from. I asked many of my peer groups to state the first word that came into their head when i said a certain word such as 'folk' or 'acoustic'. I finally came to the desicion to you use the Title 'Adapt' as it seemed most suited to my magazine as it sounds young and modern, yet is unommon and could relate to my model in a way of her religious background and having to 'adapt' to the culture around her.

Contents Page Final

Planning my contents page;

1. How many pages are on exisiting magazines; on the froots magazine i researched there were 68pages

2. What categories do magazines use to group their articles under;

3. How many columns do contents pages have? are they all the same width? - there is usually 2 or 3 collumns and are 9 times out of 10 the same size however this can change.

4. How often does an image or text spread across more than one collumn? regulary this is used by magazines to create a more informal feel to the magazine.

5. In what way are page numbers done? - in some magazine contents oages i researched a new convention i noticed becoming more popular is when the page numbers are beside an image of what is advertised on the page.

6. Where is the cover page repeated- when i looked in cosmopoliton fashion magazine it was far into the magazine. about just over half way. i think this was done to encourage the reader to read other articles not just the one on the cover.

7. How many images are used? How many changes in size? - the most ive seen is about 5 differnt images and the

8. How many changes in font size are there?

9. What are the three main colours on the page and what are they used for? are any other colours used more than once?

10. how often are boaders used? are they at the edge of collumns or in between? thick or narrow? around text boxes or images?

11. how much white space is there? are all the text items evenly spaced out?

12. how much layering has been done?

13. is the language used serious, jokey, does it say what readers will get or does it give hints?

14. can you see the same style of font as on the cover? now look at the sell lines on the cover and see where they are in contents page.

What is usually on a magazine contents;
  • Features
  • Reviews
  • News
  • Realeases
  • Regulars
  • my own bit.               ->   Even though this all meant to be on your contents i chose to not use any and simply include them. this desicion was made as i wanted my magazine to have a bit of freedom and its own power seeing as its trying to portray a fresh new style and image.

This was my first idea for a contents page.
i chose not to use this way as it became to complicated and had no
house style or conventions of regular contents pages therefore i
scraped this idea. I thought it would be good at first as the main reason the magazine was prouced was that it is centred round music (guitar) therefore the image is representitve.

Mgazine front cover ideas

All things that represent my magazine
  • Circulation
  • Distriution - IPC Media
  • Frequency - Weekly issued
  • Price - £2
  • Revenue
  • Competition- Froots
  • Independance
  • Mode of address- a relax tone of elortated speech code
  • Features
  • Audience

This could be a front cover image even though the layout is not completely correct for a front cover as the shot is to far back and her look is not inviting the audience and making them feel equal. she is looking away and the image is all about the guitar instead of her as an artist.
If i were to use this layout i would

Original ideas;

1.  My target audience is for younger teenage girls, as i think there is a space in the market for those types of sales. Country songs are young male idols that could be fantisied over.

2. My magazine, i will take ideas from 'smash hits' yet i will make it older for about 10-15year olds. i would price my mag at £1.25 so it is not to expensive as it will be the parents buying it, or if it is for the readers they can afford it with their pocket money range. I would advertise my mag by using my publishers to reccommend my mag on tv and leaflets. I am going to publish a mag every forenight. Circulation = 2000+

3. I want it to be a  mature yet fun, bright colours drawing the readers in and advertising on front cover an interesting up to date band or artist. A theme throughout that is some sort of girly flowers or exotic pattern. My production values were/are advertising fun and up to date gossip.

4. I wish to address my readers as one to one and on the same level yet being informative. It will be an upbeat attitude portrayed inviting the reader to continue on. Being a casual reader, reader as a member of an elite group and talking as a friend.

5. Both 'smash hits' and 'top of the pop's' magazines both influenced me to produce the same type of genre magazine as both have become bust and top of the pops is still around yet is not popular at all. This means there is certainly an area in the market and my mag will produce good sales.

6. The use of internet tags such as 'facebook' and 'twitter' as it is relatable to the ame age range of readers would be useful.
Note; all of the above are first idea's and many were not followed up with!
